Off to China for a couple weeks. Not sure how their filtering is, but I doubt it would be appropriate to browse here.

China doesn't give a crap about you. They care about the Chinese citizens, surf all you want. ;)

Wow. The Chinese did what no one else could do. Get you to STFU! LOL. J/king :P

Post when you get back. It'll be interesting to get your impressions vs. other Asian people you have worked with. IIRC you had posted something about Koreans attitudes towards Japanese or vice versa. I forget which ones were the @sshats. Both? Looking forward to your return. In the meantime, give those rat ba@stard commies some grief.

HAHA! Cant get me to STFU!!!

VPN FTW!!!

Japanese are the worst IMO. Koreans are roughly the same as the Chinese, go figure. And they seem pretty nice. A lot when they find out Im American seems to like America.

From my travels I have found most people are pretty decent to each other. It usually just ends up being the governments.

His comment was in reference to people being assholes.

Not necessarily people being assholes, peoples being assholes. Sure sometime people do, but usually if you can manage to have a conversation you find that is a cultural misunderstanding.

I have yet to go to a country where people are not at the core the same. Its all perspective, most Americans have never been to China or experienced Chinese culture. They have very little information to base their perspective on, and its mostly wrong. Same with them to us.

There are some culture difference and such to it. Chinese have no arm or leg hair. They believe that this is an evolutionary advancement, and that we are more like neanderthals, dumber, because we have hair. So I hear this and I tell the girl, well if you are so smart then why do I have to come here to do this job? Who put the first man on the moon? Invented the engine? Electricity? Airplane? If Chinese are so superior, then why are so many in poverty?

She understood really fast. Generalizations are usually not accurate, and peoples perspective of other cultures is usually wrong.

The new year has been interesting. I didnt get to go downtown and see some of the real cultural stuff, which was disappointing. But oh do they love their fireworks. Our 4th of July has nothing on this. Huge mortars going off in the middle of buildings, on every corner. It was amazing. And for days too, probably all week. And now after the first day, I am in a city of 22M people, and the streets are absolutely deserted, most business's are going to be closed until Wed or Thur.

Them Chinese invented gunpowder (and rockets) and were among the very 1st to use writing.... two of the most influential invention in man's history. Infact most other things are insignificant.

Actually, I'm a proud first-generation German-American. My father's side is completely German (in fact, my family has records dating back 1,000 years to a small town in Germany) and my mother's Norwegian, but we all know that Norwegians originally came from Germany. You can't get any whiter than me. Well, maybe you can. :P

And yet there are still people starving in the thousands. Some neanderthal invented a wheel. It is the application that is important.

I would say the internet has been the most influential. Writing is a means of communication, the internet has brought the whole world together. Slowly the perceptions we have of each other will break down.

The inventor of the internet is british. :)

There are plenty of useful inventions. I would have to say that the first device to create fire was the most useful to humanity.
But every nationality contributed with something to humanity. Even romanians have contributions to technology: the fountain pen and jet engines.
The thing is... outside of education there's nothing to say that one nationality is more inventive than another. We're all humans and where geniuses are born is just a matter of chance.
